Rhode Island's small size means fewer cremation providers, but Providence, Warwick, and Cranston offer competitive options. Prices are somewhat above the national average due to the higher cost of living.

Rhode Island Cremation Laws

Rhode Island requires a 48-hour waiting period before cremation. The state mandates that a licensed funeral director handle all cremation arrangements and obtain a medical examiner's approval.

Money-Saving Tip

Rhode Island's small market limits price competition. Consider comparing prices with nearby providers in southeastern Massachusetts or eastern Connecticut for potentially better rates.

My mom passed away in early January, and our family turned once again to William W Tripp Funeral Home in Pawtucket, where we have entrusted services for many years, usually working with Dan. After Mom was brought to the funeral home, I received a call from a gentleman named Matthew who introduced himself and explained that Dan would be away for a few months and that he would be assisting us. From the moment we met him, Matthew was absolutely wonderful. He took great care in walking us through every detail, never rushing us and making sure all of our questions were answered. His compassion, patience, and genuine kindness meant more to our family than I can express. During such a painful and overwhelming time, he made us feel supported and confident that Mom was in caring hands. We are deeply grateful for the respect and professionalism Matthew and the entire staff at Tripp Funeral Home showed to our family, and for the beautiful way they helped us honor our mother. From the first contact by phone to the in person meeting the staff were extremely professional and welcoming. Dan and Jason were the two that we worked with. We had to plan two funerals in four months and remembered us when we called so soon. They were wonderful and so caring. Dan even visited my mom in her home. I would highly recommend them.

Matthew Burns and the staff at Tripp funeral home provided exceptional care and kindness during one of the most difficult times in my life. Matthew's compassion, professionalism, and calm presence provided me with a sense of reassurance during a time I needed it most. I was guided through every step of the process with patience and clarity. Additionally, his attention to detail and willingness to listen made an overwhelming process feel manageable. What stood out most was the genuine care that Matthew brings to his work. It is clear that this was not simply a service he provided but a responsibility that he carried with heart and empathy. Furthermore, the entire funeral, church service and burial was coordinated for me and it was the most beautiful funeral and service I've ever experienced. I will always be grateful for their support, services and grace they provided during such a painful moment. Thank you.

For generations, it has been a family tradition to call upon the funeral home at our time of need. Recently, our father passed away and John, Roberta, Ted, Kimberly and all of their supporting staff took care of us, and everything for dad's wake, Mass and out-of-state burial. We couldn't have been more pleased with everything at a difficult time. Professionalism, compassion, kindness, guidance and paying attention to details were stand-outs. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The Paquette Family

Its never easy to lose a loved one but when you lose your mother suddenly, it leaves a devastating hole in your heart. Trying to juggle grief and handling a funeral can be extremely difficult if youre not in the right hands, but I can honestly say that I have nothing but admiration for ONeill funeral home and every single one of their staff members. Ive been to many funerals, and Ive seen disasters happen which only added to my anxiety having to be in charge to make sure my mother is laid to rest how she would have wanted. From the second I met the staff at ONeill until my mother was laid to rest, I received nothing but compassion, professionalism, patience, guidance, and complete support. I cannot thank the staff enough for the beautiful job they did, my mother looked so beautiful, and the setup was amazing. I will be planning my fathers departure through ONeill when the time comes. Thank you endlessly for an amazing job, I will be recommending you to anyone looking to send th

My family had used another funeral home in the area for several years. I was unsatisfied with my last experience because I felt that my grief was ignored. Everything about my experience with John, Roberta, and the staff at Costigan-Oneill was exemplary. My father passed away from Parkinsons Disease, and he suffered quite a bit, so I was very concerned about how he would appear. I personally received a call from John during which he eased all of my fears. My father looked handsome and at peace. I was treated with respect and kindness every step of the way. Never once did I feel like just another customer. My calls were answered, concerns were addressed, and stress was alleviated. I was guided through the entire process with care. If you know that you will suffer a loss in the near future and are unsure which funeral home will honor your loved one the best, please consider Costigan-Oneill.
