Bristol's North Burial Ground is a large and well maintained cemetery. My interest is in examining grave stones hand-carved before 1800 and there were quite a few here. These stones are not grouped in one area so you have to search for their distinctive triple hipped top. There are quite a few interesting and old stones leaning up against one of the crypts near the front of the cemetery. There are some very old and well preserved grave stones and a carved field stone for R. Smith from 1696 (carved stones from the 1600's are very rare). There are several very nicely carved stones from 1718. Take the time to stroll through the cemetery and you will be rewarded with some very fine views of the cemetery and the bay in the background.
Can't wait to be buried here....JJJ
Very well maintained. Unlike the swampy St. Marys cemetery on Chestnut Street
